A question is often asked: what is Ilm al-Ladunni?

 (divinely granted knowledge)?

And how can it be attained?

Well, the Qur’an discusses this in detail in Surah Al-Kahf, verses 60 to 82, where a complete incident is described.

To properly understand it, we need to know the background of this story. This incident is explained in the tafsir of Tafsir Ibn Kathir.

Background

 Ubayy ibn Ka'b (RA)said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 

Once, Prophet Musa (AS) stood up to deliver a sermon to the Children of Israel (Bani Israel). He was asked, Who is the most learned person in the world?

He (Musa AS) replied, I am.

Because he did not attribute the knowledge to Allah, Allah disliked this statement. At that very moment, a revelation (Wahi) came: Yes, at the junction of the two seas (Majma-ul-Bahrayn), there is a servant of Ours who is more knowledgeable than you.'

Upon this, Prophet Musa (AS) asked, O my Lord, how can I reach him?

This text is a part of a famous Hadith (Sahih Bukhari) that describes the beginning of the journey of Prophet Musa (AS) to find Hazrat Khidr (AS).

Now the part in Quran:

Surah Al-Kahf (60–82):

Moses traveled with his young companion to reach the meeting point of the two seas. They lost their fish near a rock, but forgot about it and continued their journey. Later, when Moses asked for food, the companion remembered that the fish had taken its way into the sea. They returned to the place and found a servant of Allah who had been given mercy and special knowledge.

Moses asked to follow him and learn from him. The servant told Moses that he would not be able to remain patient and ordered him not to question anything until it was explained.

They boarded a ship, and the servant damaged it. Moses objected, but the servant reminded him of his warning. Then they met a boy, and the servant killed him. Moses again objected, and the servant repeated the warning. Later they came to a town whose people refused them hospitality. They found a wall about to collapse, and the servant repaired it. Moses suggested he could have taken payment for it.

The servant then said this was the end of their companionship and explained the events:

The ship belonged to poor people, and a king was taking every good ship by force, so he damaged it.

The boy’s parents were believers, and it was feared he would burden them with disbelief and transgression, so Allah intended to replace him with someone better.

The wall belonged to two orphan boys, and beneath it was a treasure for them. Their righteous father had left it, so Allah intended the treasure to remain protected until they matured.

The servant said he did not do these actions by his own command.

Now you have taken the whole sequence, but still you don’t understand what Ilm al-Ladunni is, right?

Let’s decode it:

This is my personal reflection on the story of Musa (A.S) and Khidr (A.S) in Surah Al-Kahf. It is an attempt to understand deeper secrets.

Let’s see what kind of personal reflection you build in your mind.

1.

Allah said in ayah 65 of Surah Al-Kahf that “We gave him knowledge from Us.”

What kind of knowledge does Allah have that humans do not?

Knowledge of the unseen (ghaib), right?

So Allah granted some drops of it to Hazrat Khizar (A.S).

2.

In ayah 68, Hazrat Khizar (A.S) demanded sabr from Hazrat Musa (A.S).

Here sabr does not only mean to wait, it also means trust.

And he warned that you cannot trust the process because you do not know.

But Musa (A.S) said in ayah 69: “You will find me patient (saabir).”

3.

In ayah 71, he made a hole in the boat, and in ayah 79 he revealed the secret:

the people were poor, and to protect them he damaged the boat because a king wanted to seize it.

 Deeper Secret:

If you had that kind of information, what would you feel instantly?

You would feel pity, and to show kindness you would tell them everything.

But Allah does not want you to reveal all information to them.

So what would you do?

Maybe the same that Hazrat Khizar (A.S) did.

So here comes the secret of the name of Allah, Ar-Rahim (The Especially Merciful).

He became a servant of Ar-Rahim and did his job secretly.

Why Ar-Rahim? Because it means The Especially Merciful,

and he showed a special kind of mercy by only making a hole in their boat.

In ayah 74, he killed a boy, and in ayah 80 he revealed that the boy’s parents were believers,

and it was to protect them from becoming disbelievers.

Deeper Secret:

Parents love their children, and in that love they sometimes do things that are not acceptable in front of Allah.

So when he realized all that, he acted as a servant of Allah’s name Al-Qahhar (The Subduer) and killed the boy.

The trial of the parents still happened because the child died, and they had to do sabr.

And Allah wanted to give them another child because they were believers.

So in that moment, they successfully passed the trial.

And the child also passed, because he had not done anything yet,

so he went to Jannah because Allah liked his parents.

5.

In ayah 77, the wall was built, and the secret was revealed in ayah 82:

it belonged to two orphan boys, and beneath it was a treasure, and their father was righteous.

Deeper Secret:

Here comes the name Al-Wahhab (The Giver of Gifts).

Because it means The One who gives gifts,

and this treasure was a gift due to their father being righteous.

And Hazrat Khizar (A.S) did all of this as a reflection of these powers of Allah’s names,

as a true servant should do.

Final Reflection:

 Ilm al-Ladunni is not just a single thing that a person can attain on their own. Even Musa A.S received revelation, yet he still did not possess the specific perspective that Khidr A.S had — which is why he asked for the reasons behind his actions.

This knowledge can reach a person in different ways. Revelation (wahy) is specifically for prophets, in which an angel acts as the messenger. Apart from that, an ordinary person may experience it through inspiration (ilham), spiritual unveiling (kashf), or true dreams. However, one must also know how to recognize and judge these experiences, because they can sometimes be satanic deception as well.

“If you still wish to attain all of this, Musa (A.S) already showed the way: It demands trials and tests.

first you must have sabr — you must trust the process, even when you don’t understand it. But don't forget the satanic traps.

And Allah never repeats things in the same way;

He always repeats them in a new way.

So your trial will be different.

You cannot learn it.

you can only receive it by surrendering yourself to Allah.

And when this state arrives, neither dreams nor signs are required anymore, because it originates deep within the heart.

A secret tip:

 If you truly desire this, become a servant of Al-Adl. Begin with self-reflection, for unless it is rooted within you, it cannot be reflected in your actions.

And if it does not reflect in your actions, you cannot receive it.

Hidden Secrets from the Story of Adam (A.S)

 A Quranic psychological insight 

The story of Adam (A.S) is mentioned in different parts of the Quran. When we gather these verses and read them in sequence, a powerful pattern appears:

Creation → Sajda → Iblis’ Refusal → Jannah → Waswasa → Mistake → A sudden pang of remorse → Earth → Acceptance of Tawbah

Within this journey are deep insights that can guide our lives today.

1. The Secret of Khilafah (Leadership on Earth)

Adam (A.S) was made Allah’s khalifah on Earth.

Insight:

A human being is meant to establish Allah’s will on Earth. But before that, he must establish it within his own heart.

If the inner self is not aligned, the outer world cannot be fixed.

2. The Secret of Free Will & Justice

Everyone prostrated except Shaytan.

Insight:

Allah created good and evil, but He did not force anyone into either. Every being with choice decides on their own.

This is true justice.

Even Shaytan was not forced—he chose arrogance.

And yet, Allah always keeps the door of forgiveness open.

3. The Secret of Waswasa 

(Psychology of Whispering)

Adam (A.S) was successful in his test—until Shaytan kept whispering.

Key Reality:

A continuous whisper can weaken even a strong person.

Why was it powerful?

Because Shaytan didn’t invite to sin directly.

He changed the narrative:

- “You will become angels”

- “You will live forever”

He lied about Allah while pretending to be sincere.

Insight:

False narratives are the most dangerous weapon.

4. Knowledge vs Experience

Adam (A.S) had knowledge—but no experience yet.

Insight:

A person may understand something intellectually, but without experience, they can still be influenced.

This is why life itself is a test.

5. The Immediate Effect of Sin

When they ate from the tree, their attire (covering) was removed instantly.

Insight:

Sin is not neutral.

It immediately exposes, weakens, and affects the inner state.

6. The Balance of Allah’s Promise

Allah fulfilled His promise and sent them down from Jannah.

Insight:

If Allah’s warning is true, then His mercy is also true.

The same Lord who held them accountable also forgave them.

7. The Secret of Tawbah

When Adam (A.S.) committed the sin, he felt deep remorse. Then he was taught the prayer of repentance (tawbah), and his repentance was accepted after he came to Earth.

Insight:

True repentance begins before words—with realization and regret.

When a person is sincere, Allah Himself helps them express it.

Adam (A.S) accepted his mistake.

He did not justify it.

Final Reflection

Shaytan never comes directly and says: “Do sin.”

He:

- changes perception

- creates justification

- makes a person feel helpless

And slowly, the person convinces himself.

The story of Adam (A.S) is not just history.

It is a complete map of human psychology, struggle, and return to Allah.

Whoever understands it deeply…

understands himself.

 

There was a kite.

It was very beautiful—its eyes were striking, its colors were captivating, and it was larger than all the other kites.

It used to think that it could fly very high.

But its owner loved it deeply. He would admire it with full affection, yet he never flew it.

The kite would keep waiting for its time, wondering when its moment would come.

Finally, one day its time arrived.

The owner saw the weather was perfect and decided to fly his favorite kite.

He took the kite and went to an open field.

There was a beautiful scene all around—green grass, light clouds in the sky, a pleasant breeze, and a river nearby flowing with a soothing sound.

Seeing all this, the kite became very happy.

As soon as the owner started flying it, the kite rose very quickly into the sky, as if it had been waiting for this moment for centuries—and in truth, it was.

As it kept rising higher, it felt proud. The world below looked very small, and it felt like this was its true destiny.

But then the weather began to change.

The clouds darkened, and the wind became stronger.

The owner tried to pull the kite back by controlling the string.

But the kite resisted, as if it had become angry. Sometimes it went left, sometimes right, trying to break free from control.

The owner kept pulling the string again and again.

The kite then became frustrated and thought:

“I will not go back down.”

So it spoke to the wind:

“Can you free me from this human’s control? I will be very grateful to you.”

The wind showed its strength and broke the string.

The kite became extremely happy, thinking the wind was its true friend.

It completely surrendered itself to the wind, believing it had finally achieved true freedom.

The wind carried it far away.

Then the wind said, “Now I must go somewhere else,” and left the kite alone.

Now the kite had no support.

Slowly, it began to fall.

Eventually, it reached near a village.

Just as it was about to fall, two children saw it.

They thought it was something free to take.

They rushed toward it and tore it apart while fighting over it.

And in this way, the kite lost its life.

Spiritual Meaning

This story is not just about a kite.

It is about human beings.

Humans also love to “fly in the sky” of desires.

This is their deepest wish—to rise, to gain control, to feel freedom.

Allah has addressed this human desire in the Qur’an by mentioning word “. Hawa / Ahwa”  “desires”

Many times, people climb mountains or take extreme risks thinking they are “flying” spiritually or physically, but their end is the same as the kite’s fate.

In trying to fulfill their desires, humans sometimes harm others.

Just like the kite’s string injured a child’s hand, and in anger, the children destroyed it.

In the same way, when a person follows uncontrolled desire, they may harm others—and eventually, those same consequences return to them in the form of curses, hatred, or downfall.

Qur’anic References

1. Following Desires Leads to Misguidance

(Surah Al-Qasas 28:50)

Arabic:

فَإِن لَّمْ يَسْتَجِيبُوا لَكَ فَاعْلَمْ أَنَّمَا يَتَّبِعُونَ أَهْوَاءَهُمْ

“But if they do not respond to you, then know that they only follow their own desires.”

2. Do Not Follow Desires Away from Truth

(Surah Sad 38:26)

Arabic:

فَاحْكُم بَيْنَ النَّاسِ بِالْحَقِّ وَلَا تَتَّبِعِ الْهَوَىٰ فَيُضِلَّكَ عَن سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ

“So judge between people with truth and do not follow desire, lest it lead you away from the path of Allah.”

3. The Self Pushes Toward Desires

(Surah Yusuf 12:53)

Arabic:

وَمَا أُبَرِّئُ نَفْسِي ۚ إِنَّ النَّفْسَ لَأَمَّارَةٌ بِالسُّوءِ

“And I do not declare myself free from blame; indeed, the soul (nafs, inner ego) is inclined to evil.

Usually it's translate as soul but it's inner ego and nafs that becomes evil when it's free from Allah's will 

So,

The kite represents the human ego—

which thinks freedom means breaking every limit.

But real freedom is not in breaking the string…

Real freedom is in understanding who is holding it.

 

Human existence runs on desire. It is desire that pushes a person to struggle and work hard—perhaps you may not fully agree.

For example, if a person feels hungry and works to get food, that seems like survival. The human body is designed this way. So where does desire come into it?

Up to this point, I agree with you.

But let me ask: Have you ever asked that person if they would eat the same food for their entire life, even if it were the best food in the world?

Surely, they would refuse.

Just like the Children of Israel once complained that they could not keep eating the same food every day—they wanted variety.

Quranic Reference – Bani Israel

(Surah Al-Baqarah 2:61)

Arabic:

لَن نَّصْبِرَ عَلَىٰ طَعَامٍ وَاحِدٍ

“We cannot endure one kind of food.” 

Now reverse the question:

If someone is told: “You can eat anything you want, except one specific food for your entire life,”

Many people would agree immediately. Others would think deeply and question why.

Does this remind you of something?

Quranic Reference – Adam (AS)

(Surah Al-Baqarah 2:35)

Arabic:

وَقُلْنَا يَا آدَمُ اسْكُنْ أَنتَ وَزَوْجُكَ الْجَنَّةَ وَكُلَا مِنْهَا رَغَدًا حَيْثُ شِئْتُمَا وَلَا تَقْرَبَا هَٰذِهِ الشَّجَرَةَ

“O Adam, dwell you and your wife in Paradise and eat freely from wherever you wish, but do not approach this tree…” 

According to tafsir, Adam (AS) was drawn toward that very thing which was restricted. Then Shaytan deceived him, and he slipped, leading to his descent to Earth.

Core Question

What kind of force exists within desire that made Adam (AS) risk disobedience?

Possible answers:

• It was part of Allah’s divine plan.
• A sense of curiosity.
• The attraction toward the forbidden.
• Or something deeply embedded in human nature.

Quranic Psychology Insight

Even if a human has everything…  they still want more.

So why are we here?

• Just for a test?
• To see who does good deeds?
• Or something deeper?

Quranic Answer

Arabic:

لِيَبْلُوَكُمْ أَيُّكُمْ أَحْسَنُ عَمَلًا

“He tests you to see which of you is best in deeds.” 

But what is a good deed?

Is it simply following Shariah?

Look at your own life:

Is there something you know is wrong, yet you still do it—and when you try to stop, you feel cravings?

For example: backbiting.

At the same time, you desire things like a new car.

Comparison with Adam (AS)

Adam (AS) had Paradise, yet one restriction.

You have blessings, yet certain limits.

Now imagine:

If Allah said: “Leave backbiting, and I will give you a new car.”

What would you do?

• Some would quit instantly.
• Some would doubt.
• Some would say: “I only want Allah.”

Final Insight

Everything comes back to desire.

What you truly want defines your path.

• If you desire the world → you chase it
• If you desire Allah → you move toward Him

The path is open.

If Adam (AS) had raised his hands in dua instead of reaching for the tree…

Would Allah have refused?

Perhaps not.

We may still not fully understand what desire truly is…

But we have come close:

Desire is not just a need—it is a test of direction, loyalty, and priority.

 

Why Human Goodness Lies in Bowing Before Allah

(A Short story with Spiritual wisdom)

The question is: Why does true goodness for a human lie in bowing before Allah?

Let us understand this through a short story.

The Man Searching for Water

There once was a man who was extremely thirsty.
His throat was dry, and he felt weak from thirst.

He wandered through a jungle, searching everywhere for water, but he could not find a single drop of water.

It was winter, and the area was surrounded by mountains.

He kept walking and searching, but still he found no water.

Then suddenly, far away on a mountain peak, he noticed snow.

A small hope appeared in his heart, and he started walking toward it.

When he finally reached there, he saw something interesting.

The snow on the mountain was melting,
and the water was flowing down a slope and gathering in a very small lake below.

The man walked down to that small lake and drank the water until his thirst was satisfied.

Now a question arises.

If snow is also water —
just in a solid form —

then why didn’t the man simply go up and eat the snow?

After all, it would melt in his stomach and satisfy his thirst.

But he did not do that.

Why?

Because the human body is not designed to process water in that form.

The body needs water in a state that is suitable for it.

This is the natural system created by Allah.

The Qur’an points to this reality.

— Qur’an 95:4–6

Arabic

لَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا الْإِنسَانَ فِي أَحْسَنِ تَقْوِيمٍ
ثُمَّ رَدَدْنَاهُ أَسْفَلَ سَافِلِينَ
إِلَّا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ

“Indeed, We created man in the best form.
Then We returned him to the lowest of the low —
except those who believe and do righteous deeds.”

From here we understand another reality.

When the prophets of Allah performed miracles, it was because Allah elevated them spiritually and made them capable of bearing a greater level of divine power.

A powerful example appears in the story of Prophet Musa (Moses).

— Qur’an 7:143

Arabic

فَلَمَّا تَجَلَّى رَبُّهُ لِلْجَبَلِ
جَعَلَهُ دَكًّا وَخَرَّ مُوسَىٰ صَعِقًا

“When his Lord manifested His glory to the mountain,
He made it crumble, and Moses fell unconscious.”

If a mountain could not bear even a small manifestation of Allah’s glory,
then how could an ordinary human bear it?

This shows that to reach higher spiritual levels, a human must first prepare himself.

This is why bowing before Allah is necessary for human beings.

This bowing is not just physical —
it is the bowing of the ego.

One of Allah’s names is:

Al-Mutakabbir (المتكبر)
meaning The Truly Supreme and Majestic.

He is Al-Mutakabbir becusae he is the lord of all the mercy and all the kindness 

What a human being is in front of him ? 

What's in his hands?

 But when a human being lets go of his pride and ego, Allah raises his status. And A human becomes to be able to get snow in his hands directly because Allah’s mercy is like snow resting on the peaks of mountains —

high, majestic, and powerful.

When a human faces hardship and sincerely prays,
his prayer becomes like warmth.

That warmth melts the snow of mercy,
and it turns into water that flows down into the person’s hands.

If the person shows gratitude, the mercy remains.

But if the person is ungrateful, that mercy may leave his hands
and reach someone else instead.

Allah’s Promise

Allah reminds us in the Qur’an:

— Qur’an 4:122

Arabic

وَمَنْ أَصْدَقُ مِنَ اللَّهِ قِيلًا

“And who is more truthful in speech than Allah?”

This is why true goodness for a human lies in bowing before Allah.

Because when a human being lowers his ego,
Allah Himself raises his status. Because no one is truthful in speech than him

Why surah Yusuf is the Best Story in the Quran?  

The Qur’an contains many stories, but Allah calls the story of Yusuf A.S “the best of stories.”

نَحْنُ نَقُصُّ عَلَيْكَ أَحْسَنَ الْقَصَصِ

“We relate to you the best of stories through this Qur’an.”

This story is not just history—it contains deep spiritual and psychological wisdom.

A Dream That Began the Journey

When Yusuf A.S was a child, he saw a dream and told it to his father .

Reference: Qur’an 12:4

إِنِّي رَأَيْتُ أَحَدَ عَشَرَ كَوْكَبًا وَالشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ رَأَيْتُهُمْ لِي سَاجِدِينَ

“I saw eleven stars, the sun, and the moon prostrating to me.”

His father understood its meaning and warned him not to tell his brothers.

Jealousy and the Well

Yusuf’s brothers became jealous and threw him into a well.
But what looked like a tragedy was actually part of Allah’s plan.

He was later taken to , where his life took another turn.

The Test of Temptation

In Egypt, the wife of his master tried to tempt him.

But Yusuf A.S chose righteousness.

مَعَاذَ اللَّهِ

“I seek refuge in Allah.”

Because of this, he was imprisoned despite being innocent.

Patience Leads to Honor

Even in prison, Yusuf A.S remained patient.
Later, he interpreted the king’s dream and was given authority in Egypt.

The boy who was once thrown into a well became a respected leader.

The Power of Forgiveness

Years later, Yusuf’s brothers came to Egypt seeking food.
When they realized who he was, they were ashamed.

But Yusuf A.S forgave them.

لَا تَثْرِيبَ عَلَيْكُمُ الْيَوْمَ

“No blame will there be upon you today.”

Hidden Psychological Wisdom

This story contains deep insights about human nature:

1. Jealousy destroys relationships.
The brothers’ jealousy led them to injustice.

2. Patience builds strength.
Despite hardship, Yusuf A.S trusted Allah.

3. Forgiveness brings peace.
Instead of revenge, Yusuf A.S chose mercy.

According to Tafseer

Some classical tafsir mention that zuleikha later repented and accepted faith, and eventually married to hazrat yusaf A.S when Allah restored her youth 

This narration is mentioned in tafsir works such as those of Ibn Kathir & Al-Tabari  and , although it is not explicitly detailed in the Qur’an itself.

Final Lesson

At the beginning of this story there was jealousy, separation, and prison.
But in the end there was reunion, honor, and forgiveness. A happy ending just because everyone accepted Allah's plan with their heart they acted according to Allah's will Yusuf A.S accept Allah's will and stayed patient hazrat Yaqoob A.S cried a lot because of the pain of separation with his beloved son but he trusted Allah's promise with heart later Yusuf A.S forgave with sincerity and his brothers accepted his superiority with heart because he didn't choose for him self but it was Allah's will that he wanted to elevate him with his wisdom 

 This is why it is called the best story.

Because Allah wants the best for everyone — even when we cannot see it at the moment.

The Pen That Spoke in Court

(A story with Spiritual wisdom)

Once there was a young boy who studied in a school. Because he was small, he used a simple pencil. His teacher, however, had a beautiful ink pen. The teacher often spun the pen on his fingers, making it look as if the pen was dancing on his fingertips.

The boy watched this every day and became very fascinated.

One day when he returned home, he saw a pen belonging to his father. He tried to spin it the same way his teacher did, but the cap of that pen was not smooth. It kept falling again and again. Afraid that he might break his father’s pen, he stopped using it.

After that, he started saving his pocket money. A few days later, he finally bought a pen exactly like his teacher’s. When he brought it home, he filled it with ink and wrote his name for the first time. He was extremely happy.

Then he tried again to spin the pen on his fingertips. He kept trying again and again, but he could not succeed because his hands were still small and he needed more practice.

Days passed, and he continued practicing. Finally, one day he succeeded. The pen spun beautifully on his fingertips. His happiness had no limits.

The next day he proudly took the pen to school and started showing his friends his new trick. He felt proud because he could now do the same thing his teacher used to do. His friends tried it too, but none of them could succeed.

After school, he came back home and continued playing with the pen absentmindedly. Suddenly, the pen slipped from his fingers and fell hard onto the floor. The ink burst out and spread everywhere. In a hurry, he started cleaning the floor, but the ink had already stained his hands and his clothes.

The boy became very angry. In his frustration, he threw the pen into the dustbin.

The next morning when he woke up, he saw that the police had arrived at his house. Shocked, the boy asked why they had come to arrest him. He was told that the pen had filed a case against him.

When the hearing took place in court, the boy denied everything. But all the evidence was against him. The shopkeeper confirmed that he had sold the pen in perfect condition. His friends said they had seen the pen working properly. The ink stains were still on the floor, and even on the boy’s hands.

Because of his carelessness, the boy was about to be punished.

At that moment, the pen spoke.

“I forgive the boy,” the pen said, “but I want to say something.”

“I am a pen. My purpose is to write. I was not created to be spun on fingers just for someone’s entertainment. I was happy when my owner bought me because he seemed so happy. I thought perhaps he would use me to write beautiful words and meaningful thoughts. But for him, I was only a toy.”

The pen continued:

“He never tried to see the light hidden inside my ink and how it could be used. In life, we often meet people who use others only for their own happiness or to pass time. Those people trust so much in the light within us that we begin to think they truly love us. But in reality, we may have no real value in their eyes. That is why, in the end, they break us and walk away.”

“And remember,” the pen added,

Allah never separates two sincere people.

Separation happens when hypocrisy enters between them.

And when hypocrisy appears, Allah does not allow the hypocrite to remain united.

Those who carelessly break someone’s heart will face consequences, because breaking hearts is something whose justice belongs to Allah.
