Love is often considered the purest and most powerful emotion in human life. Poets, writers, and psychologists have written countless reflections about it. Every human being, regardless of culture or belief, understands the importance of love in relationships.

But the Qur’an presents a deeper perspective. It does not only speak about love as a feeling; it connects love with remembrance, gratitude, dignity, and responsibility. When we look closely at the Qur’an, we discover an important psychological truth: love cannot survive if it remains completely one-sided.

The Principle of Mutual Connection

One powerful verse from the Qur’an explains this principle clearly.

Reference: Qur’an 2:152

Arabic:

فَاذْكُرُونِي أَذْكُرْكُمْ وَاشْكُرُوا لِي وَلَا تَكْفُرُونِ

Fa-dhkurūnī adhkurkum wa-shkurū lī wa-lā takfurūn.

Translation:

“So remember Me; I will remember you. And be grateful to Me and do not be ungrateful.”

This verse reveals a profound psychological pattern. The structure itself shows mutuality: remembrance is answered with remembrance. This indicates that meaningful relationships require response and acknowledgment.

If one side constantly gives love, attention, and care while the other side ignores it, the connection begins to weaken. Over time, the relationship may even break. This is why one-sided love often leads to emotional pain. When someone’s love is taken for granted, the sense of dignity placed within the human heart begins to react.

Gratitude: The Foundation of Relationships

In the same verse, Allah immediately emphasizes another key principle: gratitude.

“Be grateful to Me and do not be ungrateful.”

Gratitude strengthens relationships, while ingratitude slowly destroys them. Unfortunately, humans often forget this. We forget the countless blessings given to us and sometimes act as if they are simply our right.

But when love and blessings are taken for granted, the bond between the giver and the receiver becomes weaker. This is not only true for human relationships; it also reflects the spiritual relationship between humans and their Creator.

The Universe Is Built on Pairs

The Qur’an also teaches that balance and pairing are fundamental principles of creation.

Reference: Qur’an 51:49

Arabic:

وَمِن كُلِّ شَيْءٍ خَلَقْنَا زَوْجَيْنِ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَذَكَّرُونَ

Wa min kulli shay’in khalaqnā zawjayni la‘allakum tadhakkarūn.

 Translation:

“And of everything We created pairs, so that you may reflect.”

This verse reminds us that the universe itself is structured in pairs and balance. Just as many aspects of creation exist in complementary pairs, relationships also thrive on reciprocity.

Love naturally seeks a response. When love is given sincerely, acknowledgment and appreciation maintain the balance.

Human Dignity and the Soul

The Qur’an also reminds us that human beings carry a special dignity because of the soul placed within them.

Reference: Qur’an 17:85

Arabic:

وَيَسْأَلُونَكَ عَنِ الرُّوحِ ۖ قُلِ الرُّوحُ مِنْ أَمْرِ رَبِّي

Wa yas’alūnaka ‘ani r-rūḥ. Qul ir-rūḥu min amri rabbī.

 Translation:

“And they ask you about the soul. Say: The soul is from the command of my Lord.”

Because the human soul comes from the command of Allah, every person possesses an inner sense of dignity and self-respect. This dignity should not be ignored or humiliated.

If someone finds themselves trapped in one-sided love, the Qur’anic perspective reminds them to recognize their own worth. Love should not mean losing one’s dignity.

A Reflection on Gratitude and Justice

To understand this idea more deeply, imagine creating a world for someone. You provide everything they need — care, opportunities, and support. Yet that person never acknowledges your love and treats everything as if it were their right.

Naturally, such a situation would raise the question of justice.

The Qur’an teaches that ultimately perfect justice will be established, and every act of gratitude or ingratitude will be accounted for.

The Qur’an offers a profound psychological insight into the nature of love. Love is not only an emotion; it is closely connected with remembrance, gratitude, and mutual recognition.

When love is ignored and taken for granted, relationships weaken. But when gratitude and remembrance are present, bonds become stronger.

This principle applies not only to human relationships but also to the most important relationship of all — the relationship between humans and their Creator. If you don’t love him and he still forgives you, that is his kindness.

When black and white colors are mixed, the result is grey. Grey is often called a neutral color because it does not fully belong to either side. It sits in the middle. This simple observation can also help us reflect on a deeper spiritual idea: sometimes people try to stay in a “middle zone,” neither fully committed to truth nor completely rejecting it.

When we look at the message of the Qur'an, we see that guidance and misguidance are described very clearly. The Qur’an begins by teaching us a prayer in Surah Al-Fatiha, where believers ask Allah to guide them to the straight path.

The Prayer for the Straight Path

In Surah Al-Fatiha we ask Allah:

(Qur’an 1:6–7)

Arabic

اهْدِنَا الصِّرَاطَ الْمُسْتَقِيمَ
صِرَاطَ الَّذِينَ أَنْعَمْتَ عَلَيْهِمْ
غَيْرِ الْمَغْضُوبِ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا الضَّالِّينَ

Ihdina al-ṣirāṭ al-mustaqīm, ṣirāṭ al-ladhīna an‘amta ‘alayhim ghayri al-maghḍūbi ‘alayhim wa la al-ḍāllīn.

Translation

“Guide us to the Straight Path — the path of those upon whom You have bestowed favor, not the path of those who earned Your anger nor of those who went astray.”

These verses show three conditions:

1. Those who are guided — people who follow the straight path.

2. Those who earned anger — people who knowingly rejected the truth.

3. Those who went astray (al-ḍāllīn) — people who lost their way.

The word “al-ḍāllīn” (the astray) can describe people who are searching but remain lost. They may keep moving in circles within their comfort zone, trying to find a path but never reaching the destination unless Allah guides them.

The Straight Path

The prayer in Surah Al-Fatiha shows that the real goal is al-Ṣirāṭ al-Mustaqīm (the Straight Path). It is not necessarily an easy path, but it is the path that leads to truth and success.

Allah says in the Qur’an:

(Qur’an 6:153)

Arabic

وَأَنَّ هَٰذَا صِرَاطِي مُسْتَقِيمًا فَاتَّبِعُوهُ
وَلَا تَتَّبِعُوا السُّبُلَ فَتَفَرَّقَ بِكُمْ عَنْ سَبِيلِهِ

Wa anna hādhā ṣirāṭī mustaqīman fa-ittabi‘ūhu wa lā tattabi‘ū al-subula fatafarraqa bikum ‘an sabīlih.

 Translation

“And this is My straight path, so follow it; and do not follow other ways, for they will separate you from His way.”

This verse shows that there are many confusing paths, but the straight path is one clear direction.

The “Middle Zone” Is Not the Destination

Some people try to stay in a neutral state — not fully committed to guidance, but not openly rejecting it either. Spiritually, this can resemble the “grey zone.” However, the Qur’an repeatedly emphasizes that true success comes from choosing the path of guidance.

Allah also explains that guidance ultimately comes from Him:

(Qur’an 6:125)

Arabic 

فَمَنْ يُرِدِ اللَّهُ أَنْ يَهْدِيَهُ يَشْرَحْ صَدْرَهُ لِلْإِسْلَامِ

Fa-man yuridi Allāhu an yahdiyahu yashraḥ ṣadrahu lil-islām.

Translation:

“So whoever Allah intends to guide, He opens his chest to Islam.”

This means that a person may search for the truth, but the clarity of the path comes when Allah opens their heart to guidance.

Why Prophets and Scriptures Were Sent

The Qur’an teaches that prophets and divine books were sent so that people would find the straight path instead of remaining lost. Allah says:

(Qur’an 4:165)

Arabic 

رُسُلًا مُبَشِّرِينَ وَمُنذِرِينَ لِئَلَّا يَكُونَ لِلنَّاسِ عَلَى اللَّهِ حُجَّةٌ بَعْدَ الرُّسُلِ

Rusulan mubashshirīna wa mundhirīna li-allā yakūna lil-nās ‘alā Allāhi ḥujjah ba‘da al-rusul.

Translation:

“Messengers as bringers of good news and warners, so that people would have no argument against Allah after the messengers.”

Through prophets and revelation, humanity is shown the clear difference between guidance and misguidance.

The Final Reality

In the end, the Qur’an makes it clear that the final judgment will distinguish between those who followed guidance and those who did not. The “middle zone” is not the final destination; a person ultimately chooses a direction.

This is why Muslims repeat the prayer of Surah Al-Fatiha every day — asking Allah again and again:

“Guide us to the Straight Path.”

It is a reminder that true success lies not in staying between paths, but in being guided firmly toward the path of truth.

The Secret Behind Iblis’ Refusal – A Quranic Philosophy

 The Difference Between Worship and True Love

The story of the creation of Adam (A.S.) and the refusal of Iblis to prostrate is mentioned many times in the Qur’an. This repetition shows that the event carries a deep lesson for humanity. Through these verses, we can understand the difference between worship done for status and worship done with true love for Allah.

The Command to Prostrate

When Allah created Adam (A.S.), He commanded the angels and Iblis to prostrate before him as a sign of respect.

Surah Al-Baqarah (2:34)

Arabic 

وَإِذْ قُلْنَا لِلْمَلَائِكَةِ اسْجُدُوا لِآدَمَ فَسَجَدُوا إِلَّا إِبْلِيسَ ۖ أَبَىٰ وَاسْتَكْبَرَ وَكَانَ مِنَ الْكَافِرِينَ
“Wa idh qulna lil-malaikati usjudu li-Adama fasajadu illa Iblees; aba wastakbara wa kana minal kafireen.”

 Translation

“And when We said to the angels, ‘Prostrate to Adam,’ they all prostrated except Iblis. He refused and was arrogant, and he became one of the disbelievers.”

Here the Qur’an clearly mentions the real reason behind Iblis’ refusal: arrogance (takabbur).

The Argument of Iblis

Iblis believed he was superior to Adam (A.S.) because of the material he was created from.

Surah Al-A‘raf (7:12)

Arabic 

قَالَ مَا مَنَعَكَ أَلَّا تَسْجُدَ إِذْ أَمَرْتُكَ ۖ قَالَ أَنَا خَيْرٌ مِّنْهُ خَلَقْتَنِي مِن نَّارٍ وَخَلَقْتَهُ مِن طِينٍ

“Qala ma mana'aka alla tasjuda idh amartuk; qala ana khayrun minhu khalaqtani min naar wa khalaqtahu min teen.”

Translation
“Allah said: ‘What prevented you from prostrating when I commanded you?’
He said: ‘I am better than him. You created me from fire and created him from clay.’”

This sentence “Ana khayrun minhu” (I am better than him) reveals the hidden disease in Iblis’ heart: pride.

Iblis Admits His Rebellion

Even after knowing the consequences, Iblis chose rebellion.

Surah Al-Hijr (15:33)

Arabic 

قَالَ لَمْ أَكُن لِأَسْجُدَ لِبَشَرٍ خَلَقْتَهُ مِن صَلْصَالٍ مِّنْ حَمَإٍ مَّسْنُونٍ

“Qala lam akun li-asjuda li basharin khalaqtahu min salsalin min hama’in masnoon.”

 Translation

“He said: ‘I will not prostrate to a human whom You created from sounding clay, from molded mud.’”

Later he even blamed Allah for his misguidance.

Surah Al-Hijr (15:39)

Arabic

قَالَ رَبِّ بِمَا أَغْوَيْتَنِي لَأُزَيِّنَنَّ لَهُمْ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَلَأُغْوِيَنَّهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ

“Qala rabbi bima aghwaytani la uzayyinanna lahum fil ardi wa la ughwiyannahum ajma‘een.”

 Translation
“He said: ‘My Lord, because You have put me in error, I will surely make sin attractive to them on earth and I will mislead them all.’”

A Hidden Question

Before Adam (A.S.) was created, Iblis was known for his intense worship. According to many Islamic traditions, he worshipped Allah for a very long time and had reached a high rank among the angels.

This raises a deep question:

Why was Iblis worshipping Allah?

• Was it because of fear?
• Was it because of love?
• Or was it because he wanted status and rank?

If his worship was purely from fear, then why did he suddenly disobey when he knew the punishment?

If it was true love, then why did he refuse the command of the One he claimed to worship?

The Reality: Desire for Status

The verses suggest another possibility:
Iblis was worshipping Allah in order to gain honor and rank.

But when Allah granted a special status to Adam (A.S.), Iblis felt jealousy and pride.

He could not accept that a new creation made from clay would be honored above him.

This jealousy turned his long worship into arrogance, and arrogance destroyed him.

The Real Secret of Being Beloved by Allah

From this story, a deep spiritual lesson appears:

Being close to Allah is not only about worship.

It is about humility and love.

Iblis wanted to become the beloved, but he never learned how to become a true lover of Allah.

A true lover obeys the beloved without pride.

The Test of Humanity

This is why humanity was sent to earth.

Surah Ta-Ha (20:117)

Arabic 

فَقُلْنَا يَا آدَمُ إِنَّ هَٰذَا عَدُوٌّ لَّكَ وَلِزَوْجِكَ فَلَا يُخْرِجَنَّكُمَا مِنَ الْجَنَّةِ فَتَشْقَىٰ

“Fa qulna ya Adamu inna hadha ‘aduwwun laka wa li-zawjika fala yukhrijannakuma minal jannati fatashqa.”

 Translation
“So We said: ‘O Adam, indeed this is an enemy to you and your wife, so let him not drive you out of Paradise.’

Human life thus became a test — a journey to return to Allah with sincerity. After Adam slipped and was sent down from Paradise, the children of Adam were given a chance not only to live on earth but also to strive to return to Jannah by elevating their spiritual ranks through faith, humility, and righteous deeds. The purpose is not merely to worship, but to purify the heart from pride, unlike Iblis.”

The Final Lesson

The story of Adam (A.S.) and Iblis teaches us a powerful truth:

• Worship without humility can lead to arrogance.
• Knowledge without obedience can lead to rebellion.
• Rank without love can lead to jealousy.

The real path to Allah is love, humility, and sincerity.

Only the one who becomes a true lover of Allah can ever become beloved by Him.

The Pen That Spoke in Court

(A story with Spiritual wisdom)

Once there was a young boy who studied in a school. Because he was small, he used a simple pencil. His teacher, however, had a beautiful ink pen. The teacher often spun the pen on his fingers, making it look as if the pen was dancing on his fingertips.

The boy watched this every day and became very fascinated.

One day when he returned home, he saw a pen belonging to his father. He tried to spin it the same way his teacher did, but the cap of that pen was not smooth. It kept falling again and again. Afraid that he might break his father’s pen, he stopped using it.

After that, he started saving his pocket money. A few days later, he finally bought a pen exactly like his teacher’s. When he brought it home, he filled it with ink and wrote his name for the first time. He was extremely happy.

Then he tried again to spin the pen on his fingertips. He kept trying again and again, but he could not succeed because his hands were still small and he needed more practice.

Days passed, and he continued practicing. Finally, one day he succeeded. The pen spun beautifully on his fingertips. His happiness had no limits.

The next day he proudly took the pen to school and started showing his friends his new trick. He felt proud because he could now do the same thing his teacher used to do. His friends tried it too, but none of them could succeed.

After school, he came back home and continued playing with the pen absentmindedly. Suddenly, the pen slipped from his fingers and fell hard onto the floor. The ink burst out and spread everywhere. In a hurry, he started cleaning the floor, but the ink had already stained his hands and his clothes.

The boy became very angry. In his frustration, he threw the pen into the dustbin.

The next morning when he woke up, he saw that the police had arrived at his house. Shocked, the boy asked why they had come to arrest him. He was told that the pen had filed a case against him.

When the hearing took place in court, the boy denied everything. But all the evidence was against him. The shopkeeper confirmed that he had sold the pen in perfect condition. His friends said they had seen the pen working properly. The ink stains were still on the floor, and even on the boy’s hands.

Because of his carelessness, the boy was about to be punished.

At that moment, the pen spoke.

“I forgive the boy,” the pen said, “but I want to say something.”

“I am a pen. My purpose is to write. I was not created to be spun on fingers just for someone’s entertainment. I was happy when my owner bought me because he seemed so happy. I thought perhaps he would use me to write beautiful words and meaningful thoughts. But for him, I was only a toy.”

The pen continued:

“He never tried to see the light hidden inside my ink and how it could be used. In life, we often meet people who use others only for their own happiness or to pass time. Those people trust so much in the light within us that we begin to think they truly love us. But in reality, we may have no real value in their eyes. That is why, in the end, they break us and walk away.”

“And remember,” the pen added,

Allah never separates two sincere people.

Separation happens when hypocrisy enters between them.

And when hypocrisy appears, Allah does not allow the hypocrite to remain united. 

Quote by (Ali ibn Abi Talib A.S)

Those who carelessly break someone’s heart will face consequences, because breaking hearts is something whose justice belongs to Allah. Even if the person whose heart was broken is a sinner, hurting someone’s heart is still a serious matter. That is why the rights of people — Haqooq-ul-Ibad — are emphasized again and again.

Moral Lesson

Everything and everyone has a purpose and a dignity.

Do not use people merely for your own happiness or entertainment.

Respect the feelings and hearts of others.

Breaking someone’s heart is a serious matter, and true dignity comes from respecting others as well as yourself.

Hazrat Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:

إِنَّمَا الأَعْمَالُ بِالنِّيَّاتِ، وَإِنَّمَا لِكُلِّ امْرِئٍ مَا نَوَى

 “Innamal a‘maalu binniyyaat, wa innama likullimri’in ma nawaa”

“Actions are judged by intentions, and every person will have only what they intended.”

Let’s decode this hadith with a simple example.

Bring an onion and look at it carefully. When you start peeling it, you will find layer upon layer. As you keep removing the layers, the onion becomes smaller and smaller. In the end, if only a tiny piece remains, can you cook food with it? Of course not. It is too little to add to the dish. It cannot show its essence — its smell and its taste. It becomes useless. We need a proper amount of onion to give flavor to the food.

Now let’s understand these layers that we removed.

For example, you started going to pray in a mosque. You took a bath, applied perfume, dressed nicely, walked to the mosque, and then offered your prayer.

But think about your intentions:

You took a bath just to look clean in front of people.

You applied perfume so people would like you.

You dressed well to impress others.

You chose a specific route to the mosque because you wanted to meet a certain person on the way.

Then you prayed.

In all of this, you may only receive the reward for the prayer itself. But if you had done all these things purely for the sake of Allah — bathing for purity, applying perfume for the mosque, preparing yourself respectfully for worship — then your reward would be much greater.

And if you even prayed only so that people would think you are a good person, it is like peeling an onion down to its last tiny piece and even that piece is gone— the essence is gone.

This is the meaning of the hadith: intention changes the essence of every action. It can increase its value greatly, or it can completely destroy it. Because intentions are the seeds it should be pure if you want the plant out of it

Before Allah, even the smallest part of an onion is enough as an offering. But if that tiny part is not given with sincerity, then a person may find themselves in serious loss.

Qur’anic Verse:

وَاسْتَعِينُوا بِالصَّبْرِ وَالصَّلَاةِ ۚ وَإِنَّهَا لَكَبِيرَةٌ إِلَّا عَلَى الْخَاشِعِينَ

“Wastaʿīnū biṣ-ṣabri waṣ-ṣalāh, wa innahā lakabīratun illā ʿalal-khāshiʿīn.”

“And seek help through patience and prayer. And indeed, it is difficult except for the humble.”

— Surah Al-Baqarah (2:45)

The human heart is like a mirror. A mirror does not lie — it reflects whatever stands before it. In the same way, the heart reflects whatever exists within it.

If there is peace inside the heart, calmness appears in life.

If there is faith inside, even difficulties seem manageable.

But if darkness settles within, even light begins to feel dim.

Over time, dust gathers on the mirror — the dust of mistakes, anger, jealousy, and pride. Dust can be wiped away easily, but rust is different.

To remove rust, one needs patience… and prayer.

Patience protects the heart from breaking.

Patience prevents haste.

Patience slowly calms the inner storms.

And prayer?

Prayer reconnects the heart to its Creator. When a person bows in prostration, the heart feels lighter. Prostration is not merely the bending of the body — it is the breaking of ego. And when pride breaks, rust begins to weaken.

Patience and prayer together polish the mirror of the heart.

And when the heart becomes clear — it reflects not only faces, but truth itself

Now let’s try an experiment.

Bring a mirror and shine a strong light on it. Then look at the person holding the mirror. Because of the light reflecting from it, you won’t really see the person clearly — you will mostly see the light. You won’t notice their skin tone or physical features; what stands out is the brightness being reflected.

In the same way, near Allah, your color does not matter. What matters is how much light you are able to reflect.

That is why, if your heart has become rusty and no longer feels capable of reflecting light, do not panic. Do not lose hope. Work with patience.

Allah does not want perfection — He wants your struggle. He wants to see how much you try after you realize your mistakes. He knows how to repair you, because He is the One who created you.
